Top 10 things to do in Manly on a Weekend

Our office is located in Manly, one of the most popular spots in Sydney. It is the heart of the Northern Beaches area, famous for its beautiful beaches, surf lifestyle and close proximity to the city made possible by the famous Manly Ferry. If you are interested in discovering the best of what Manly has to offer, we have selected our top 10 things to do in Manly on a weekend, check it out!

Ferry Ride

If you are not based in the Northern Beaches region, the best way to go to Manly is by taking the ferry at Circular Quay (Sydney Centre), which typically departs every 30 minutes. It is not only an easy trip, but a must-do experience to see the fabulous views of Sydney Harbour and surrounds.

Happy hour at the Office

For a perfect end to the day, grab a couple of beers and your mates, and head down to the grass picnic area at the East Esplanade locally known as “The Office”. Right next to the famous Manly Wharf, you will get to enjoy one of the most typical Manly experiences as the sun sets over the east and lights up the boats anchored in the glassy bay. Definitely one of our favourite activities in our top 10 things to do in Manly on a weekend!

We also recommend you to have a look at the happy hour at 4 Pines Brew Pub (just at the Manly Wharf front), which serves local craft beer and delicious food!

Classic Australian brekkie

In Australia, the best way to start the day is to have a classic Australian “brekkie”(breakfast). These delicious brekkies usually include avocado on toast, cooked beans, running poached eggs, crispy bacon and the inevitable creamy latte. Do you enjoy coffee? If you do, you are in the right place! Manly is full of high-quality cafes in every corner, especially in the nice Market Lane area.

Shelly Beach walking

If you believe you have seen spectacular beaches already, is because you haven’t been to Shelly Beach yet! Shelly is a protected marine reserve and home of various fish species, a dreamy spot to go snorkelling, scuba diving or even making your own barbecue at the public bbq just in front of the sea. If you are not keen on cooking you can also have the best breakfast at The Boathouse, or even a Fish and Chips lunch for a completely Australian experience!
This must place to visit is just 20 minutes walking from Manly Corso, passing through the long Manly beach and walking along the seaside esplanade, perfect path to go walking, running or even riding during the weekdays.

Surf session

You can’t leave Manly without a surf session! This is a must in our top 10 things to do in Manly on a weekend! Manly’s lifestyle is very outdoors and active, you can see people from any age practising sports.
We can give away all our favourite spots, but if you are keen to learn how to catch a wave, the Manly Surf School team teaches you all the skills to start riding.
Stand Up Paddle and Kayaking are also super fun, you can rent a board easily at the Manly Kayak Centre opposite the Ferry Wharf.

Pub time

The nightlife in Manly is basically about pubs. The great classic Hotel Steyne is the best place to socialize, meet new people from all over the world and have some drinks. Don’t miss out to go to the rooftop and watch the whole Manly beach and the pine trees from above.
Do you have a tight budget? Don’t miss the opportunity and jump on the pub during a Monday evening! You will get a meal for half price with your favourite beer 😉

Secret beach morning

Sunday mornings always come with that chilled feeling, so we like it very easy and slow.
Our top choice is going to the secret Collins Flat Beach, situated just a few minutes walking from Manly. Swimming in the calm waters and having a picnic with a scenic harbour view… Feeling a little envious? You should! Life can’t get better in this dream place!

Manly markets

Local markets are always attractive for both visitors or residents.
The open-air Manly Market Place is on every Saturday and Sunday 9am-5pm, showcasing handmade arts, gifts and food. It happens in a cool and sunny seaside laneway, don’t miss out!

Walking trail

To finish the afternoon in the very best way possible, we absolutely recommend exploring Sydney’s most spectacular walking tracks of Manly North Head.
Prepare yourself for incredible lookouts with idyllic views of Sydney’s waterways and cityscape. Download the free walking trail map here.

Dinner over the sea

After a full weekend cruising around Manly, why not having a nice dinner to celebrate this special neighbourhood? The Manly Wharf Boulevard is home of outstanding restaurants & bars with water views.
The Manly Wharf Hotel, Hugos or The Bavarian serve fantastic dishes and drinks while you admire the lights and fell the fresh sea atmosphere.
