Moomba brings mambo to Melbourne

Moomba is an aboriginal word that means let’s get together and have fun. It’s known as the largest free community festival in Australia, and is celebrated annually in Melbourne for four days (five this year), incorporating the Labour Day long weekend, from Friday to the second Monday of March.

The Yarra River gets even more attention than usual by holding the famous Birdman Rally, in which competitors jump into the water in the name of charity. Another of the festival’s key events is the Moomba Parade, which this year promises to feature the largest floats in the festival’s history.

The event program is very varied and there is fun guaranteed for all tastes and ages! Attractions, water sports, silent disco, live music, fireworks, music workshops, dance and acrobatics, face painting and yoga for children are just some of them. And if you feel like moving your body to the rhythm of Latin music, there will Latin dance workshops held at the Star Garden on the 11th and 12th.
