5 reasons why I fell in love with Perth

Perth is the capital of Western Australia and is known for being the most isolated major city in the world! It’s nearest urban area, Adelaide is 2,104 km (a three hour plane ride away). Does this sound appealing to you? Probably not… But what if I tell you that Perth has up to 320 days of sunshine a year and is one of the most beautiful cities in Australia? I’ve been living here for seven years now and I’m still in awe with this place. Why? Let me tell you the 5 reasons why I fell in love with Perth:

1. Amazing weather: If you want to enjoy an outdoor lifestyle and clear blue skies an incredible 70% of the year, you will love this! Perth is known as one of the sunniest cities in the world with about eight hours of sunlight per day across the year. It has a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild winters so, weather wise, It makes me feel at home!

 

2. Spectacular beaches: Perth metro area has 19 beaches, but there are 20,000 kms of coastline to enjoy in WA. Perth beaches are famous for having soft white sands and crystal clear waters, and what’s best, they are super clean and not crowded at all! I’ve found myself sharing the most iconic beaches of the region with just a couple of people, and that’s priceless. Ah, cant forget to mention that the sunsets are the most beautiful I’ve ever seen!

 

3. Dreamlike nature and rich biodiversity: If you love spending time in nature and exploring your surroundings Perth won’t disappoint you. Eight of Australia’s 15 declared biodiversity hotspots are in Western Australia. The South West of WA is an internationally recognised biodiversity hotspot and has one of the highest rates of species discovery in the world. Here you will find Kangaroos everywhere and is the only place in the world where you can find quokkas! Visiting the different caves along Caves Road, walking through ancient trees at Borannup Forest and watching humpback and blue whales travel along the coastline are just some of my favourite things to do during my free time.

 

4. Welcoming for all nationalities: Perth has one of the highest standards of living in the world. However, it’s still affordable in comparison to other study-abroad destinations. Perth is a city that embraces cultural diversity, so there are hundreds of people from different nationalities living and studying here. There is a big Latin American community, and Brazilians have found their “spiritual home” in Scarborough, also known as Scar-Brazil where the Portuguese language is second only to English in the suburb.

 

5. Relaxed lifestyle with great opportunities for immigrants: There is currently massive potential in Perth for work in sectors such as healthcare, education, tourism, construction and technology. Perth could be the way to go if you’re looking to settle and get started in an Australian career. The job industry is growing, it’s less competitive than other capital cities, like Sydney and Melbourne and salaries are higher than in any other city. Perth also has a high rate of international students finding employers willing to sponsor them! If you’re looking for a relaxed lifestyle with a touch of city living, then this is definitely the place for you!
