With more than 100 beaches, Sydney is a perfect place to enjoy the summer in Australia. While it is incredible to spend the day at the main beaches of Bondi, Manly or Cronulla, it can be a bit crowded with thousands of tourists around.
The good news is that there are still secluded beaches in and around Sydney that provide you moments of genuine relaxation and nature appreciation.

1.Resolute Beach, Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park
This empty paradise is just waiting for you. Located inside the wild Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park, at just 1-hour drive from Sydney, you can access this majestic scenery from the Resolute Loop Trail to the Resolute Beach.
From there you can enjoy beautiful views over Pittwater and the Barrenjoey Headland, till you encounter this 60 meters stretch of crystal clear water and sandy beach.
It is an absolute and private gem, with no tourists around and kookaburras flying around if you are lucky. Don’t miss the Red Hands Cave, where you can see some Aboriginal art.
2. Jibbon Beach, Royal National Park
With only 1 hour drive from Sydney to the South, the Royal National Park is home of a group of stunning beaches. Jibbon Beach is one of them, with 700 meters stretch and calm waters in a quiet place to take a sunbath peacefully. From there you can also find out Aboriginal engravings along walking trails.
This secret beach is close to Bundeena town centre that offers great coffee and classic Australian meat pies.
3. Maitland Bay beach, Bouddi National park
Another great and hidden spot for outdoors lovers is Maitland Bay beach. It is located inside Bouddi National park, a protected national park located in the Central Coast region of New South Wales, which means a smooth 1,5 hours drive north of Sydney center.
The short Maitland Bay track takes you downhill to the beautiful 600 meters long south-facing beach of Maitland Bay and its shipwreck.

4. Collins Flat Beach, Sydney Northern Beaches
This place is definitely one of our top 7 secret beaches in Sydney! With only 15 minutes walk from the buzz of Manly, between North Head and Little Manly Cove, Collins Flat Beach can be a perfect place to retreat when the crowds get serious during summer in Sydney.
Swimming in the calm waters and having a picnic with a scenic harbour view, life can’t get better.
5. Whale Beach, Sydney Northern Beaches
This secluded beach is located between the famous beaches of Avalon and Palm Beach, at the Sydney Northern Beaches area. The origin of the name Whale Beach is unknown, although it is presumed to be associated either with the shape of the northern headland or beaching of a whale.
Not very known yet by the tourists, Whale beach is an amazing option for swimming and surfing.
At the northern end of the beach, just off the rocks, a well-known surf break called the Wedge is located, so make sure to bring your surfboard and get ready to ride the waves!
6. Reef Beach, Dobroyd Head
Exploring one of Sydney Harbour’s most beautiful walking tracks, the Spit Bridge to Manly Walk, otherwise known as the Manly Scenic Walkway is a must-do when in the area. It takes around 3.5 hours solid walking to complete all the 10km track.
However, it is obligatory to enjoy everything that is offered on the way, which includes the Reef Beach along Dobroyd Head. This small strip of sand shows spectacular views across Sydney’s North Harbour, a perfect spot for a refreshing dip with no crowds or noise.
7. Milk beach, Vaucluse
The secret Milk Beach has tempting transparent calm water and views of Shark Island and Sydney city skyline, a truly nice scenery.
The best way to access the beach is to follow the Hermitage Foreshore Walk starting in Rose Bay. Overlooking Hermit Bay and Sydney Harbour, right in front of the historic Strickland House, Milk Beach is a 50 meters long wide strip of sand. Even though it gets a bit busy during summertime, it is totally worth it to go for a swim and enjoy the harbor views.
